The Magnalight EPL-48-4L-LED is U.S./Canada U.L. approved Class 1 Division 1 - Class II, Division 1 and 2, has a T6 temperature rating and is an ideal lighting solution for areas where flammable petrochemical vapors and/or pulverized dust exist or have the potential to exist.
This 4 foot long 4 LED tube fixture is ideal for operators seeking a top quality explosion proof light that will reduce operating costs, improve lighting quality and reduce downtime incurred from frequent servicing intervals. The EPL-48-4L-LED is equipped with Magnalight’s specially designed LED T-series bulbs which produce nearly 15% more light than standard T5-HO bulbs. Our new LED-T series bulbs are visibly brighter than standard T5-HOs and have consistently surprised many of our customers with their unexpectedly high light output levels.
This 4 LED bulb explosion proof fixture is lighter in weight, has a slimmer profile, and produces more light than traditional explosion proof fluorescent fixtures. The 4 foot long LED tube design bulbs included with this unit are rated at 50,000 hours of service life, which is over twice as long as standard T5-HO bulbs.
This fixture carries a T6 temperature rating and is U.L. approved Class 1 Division 1, Groups C and D, Class 1 Division 2, Group A,B,C and D, and Class II, Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F and G.

We have eliminated the ballast box normally associated with fluorescent fixtures which reduces overall weight, creates a slimmer unit profile, and helps this fixture maintain a T-6 temperature rating. There is no ballast in this unit and the included LED T-series lamps have a 50,000 hour service life, both of which result in extreme efficiency and greatly reduced maintenance costs. Maintenance is further simplified with interchangeable screw on end caps and O ring seals which allows all relamping to be done from one end of the fixture.
The LED bulbs used in this fixture are our new second generation LED T series 24W watt lamps which produce 15% more foot candles than a T5HO configuration when measured at 8 feet with an Extech light meter. The solid state design of the LED lamps and integral spring loaded end sockets give this fixture superior resistance to damage from vibrations and extremes in temperature as well as a lamp service life over twice that of standard T5-HO bulbs. The 24 watt LED lamps produce more illumination than our standard T5-HO bulbs, but draw only 1/3rd the amount of current.
This fixture is multi-voltage capable (not multi-tap) and works on the following voltages: 120 Volt 60 HZ, 220 Volt 50 HZ, 240 Volt 60 HZ, 277 Volts 60 HZ. We also make a 9-32V DC version for low voltage applications (-LV suffix). Our EPL-48-4L-LED LED light fixture is U.S. and Canada U.L. approved for use in paint spray booths.
Mounting: Standard end mounting via Unistrut. The Unistrut is attached to our standard L-bracket mounts. These L-bracket mounts can be adjusted to create angle mounts. As illustrated in the photos above, the series of mounting holes at the top of the bracket enable this explosion proof LED light to be attached to any wall, ceiling or floor surface. A simple through bolt can be used to secure the light to the surface. A single junction box at one end of the light is provided for the electrical connection. Pendant mounts optional.
Suggested Applications: Paint spray booths, Aircraft maintenance, Oil drilling rigs, Refineries, Solvent and cleaning areas, Gas processing plants, Chemical manufacturing, Waste treatment plants, Gas processing plants.

Of huge importance to paint spray booth applications is the safety regulation compliance of the lighting equipment and its suitability for use in a hazardous environment. Due to the flammable nature of the chemicals and compounds used within the booth, removing potential sources of ignition is critical. Since any electrical equipment used is a potential source of heat, sparks or flame, it must be properly designed and certified for use in hazardous locations. Paint spry booth lighting that is mo [...]
As of this writing, OSHA has yet to institute a solid set of standards for combustible dusts. Many officials adopt NFPA recommendations into their local fire codes as a result in order to attempt some level of regulatory standards across a broad spectrum. Whether or not any meaningful regulation emerges from OSHA in the near future, it is best that any industry or commercial operation associated with combustible dusts be preemptive and adhere to any local regulations as well as adopt their own m [...]
Confined space lighting must also provide the widest possible coverage of the workspace and be bright enough and of high enough quality to allow trouble free visual determinations. Colors need to be rendered correctly and light levels must be high enough to allow normal activity without the need for compensation through slowed operations and overly repetitive verifications. Other considerations for confided space lighting include keeping heat production to a minimum, hands free operation, durabi [...]
LEDs retain several distinct advantages over fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not require any ballast for their operation. Using entirely solid state electronics, the current and output of LEDs can be easily regulated and maintained. There is no initial startup or warm up period normally associated with ballast equipped luminaries. [...]
When most of us think of night vision devices we usually picture the elaborate electronic headgear or special cameras used by military personnel. We usually assume the technology is complicated and the price exorbitant and so we also assume that attractive as being able to see in the dark may be, its beyond the realm of us mere mortals. [...]
Hazardous location lighting equipment is in the simplest explanation used in places where concentrations of volatile gases, flammable dust or particulates, or flammable chemicals are high enough to present a danger of ignition that can lead to explosion or fire. [...]
Most paint spray booths utilize one of two types of lighting fixtures in their design, either fluorescent tubes, or high intensity discharge lamps. Incandescent lamps are poor choices for spray booth applications because they are highly inefficient, have very short life-spans, and produce copious amounts of heat during their operation. [...]
Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...]
Hazardous work areas are one of the most demanding environments for the workers and equipment that must operate within them. The often confined spaces combined with the presence of volatile materials presents a serious danger of fires and explosions that must be adequately addressed to insure the safety of workers and the public in both the work space and the surrounding area. [...]
When it comes to explosion proof lighting many people have trouble understanding exactly what the term means. Factor in that there is also the term “intrinsically safe light” which is related to explosion proof lighting, and the fact that few people have had the benefit of a good layman explanation of the terms, and it becomes clear that there is plenty of room for confusion. [...]
One of the most critical aspects of a properly designed spray booth is the type of lighting to be used in its operation. For most applications, the number and size of the lights needed is determined by the size of the booth. The second most important consideration is the quality of the illumination provided by these lights. [...]
Hazardous work areas present special challenges for the workers and businesses that must operate within them. These work areas are often confined rooms or containers like fuel tanks where vapors and gases from work activities can become concentrated to dangerous levels. As well as the obvious dangers posed by inhalation of these contaminants are the not so obvious dangers that can have lethal consequences if not properly addressed. [...]
