The EPL-DL-70-24 Explosion Proof Dock Light is U.L. approved Class 1 & 2, Division 1 & 2 and is rated for use in wet and marine environments. The 26" extended swing arm made of 1 1/2 square steel tube and metal halide lamp used with this unit provides operators with excellent power and efficiency coupled with high versatility and ease of use.
The EPL-DL-70-24 explosion proof dock light provides 13,000 square feet of work area coverage with 32,000 lumens of light output. The 70 watt metal halide lamp on this unit produces illumination equivalent to typical 400 watt halogen lamps while drawing only 70 watts at .58 amps. The metal halide lamp runs cooler than 400 watt halogen lamps, resulting in an easier to handle unit and less heat in the workspace. The metal halide lamp in this unit produces a brilliant flood pattern of light that is ideal for high vibration environments and general illumination in any area designated a hazardous location fitting this units' classification. A 26" extended swing arm made of 1 1/2 square steel tube provides adjuatble mounting for a 70 watt light head and allows users to position the light as needed during loading and unloading operations.

This explosion proof light fixture is comprised of a 70 watt light head with a dual ended metal halide lamp mounted atop a 26" extended swing arm made of 1 1/2" square steel tube with powder coat yellow finish for durability. The swing arm allows a total of 180 degrees horizontal adjustment while the hinge bracket connecting the light to the arm provides both vertical and horizontal adjustment for a wide range of possible positions. Included with this unit is 6' of wire to be used to connect this unit in compliance with NEC methods for Class I, Div. I locations. The wire entrance is sealed and a 1/2 inch threaded NPT allows operators to make conduit connections at the base of the lamp head.
The lamp assembly includes a 70 watt metal halide bulb, internal ballast and aluminum finish reflector in a copper-free cast aluminum housing with a thermoset powder coat finish. The shell, covers and sealed fittings are also made of copper-free aluminum. The lens is constructed of 3/4" thermal shock and impact resistant tempered glass and the housing contains threaded joints lubricated with non-drying lubricant. The metal halide lamp has no filament and is thus highly resistant to damage from shocks or impacts, greatly reducing the chances of damage should the lamp be dropped or hit, unlike incandescent lamps which may break or shatter. The lamp is rated at 2500+ hours of life, providing longer service life than typical halogen lamps.
This light is available with either the 70 watt Metal Halide lamp shown here or an alternate 150 watt High Pressure Sodium bulb. Choose your desired bulb configuration below when ordering.

Utilizing controlled tests involving standard mining cap lights, common commercial grade LEDs, and a special LED mining light design of their own making, they found that for most intents and purposes, LEDs provided a greater degree of contrast and improved threat detection times as shown by test subjects. Particularly in the case of workers over the age of 40, with 43 years being the average age of mine workers, contrasting of LED illuminated objects was improved 43%. Additionally, threat detect [...]
North America is presently not operating with the IECex/ATEX schemes although some effort has been made to produce some homogenity between North American and European Standards, most notably the US and Canada's adoption of a Zone system (NEC 505) modeled after European Schemes. However, despite the great similarity between North American and European Zone systems, they are not identical and are not interchangeable.

Although it might at first glance seem almost disingenuous, the sugar and flour on your local supermarkets shelves once had the potential to cause explosions big enough to destroy an entire building. The corn meal in your kitchen cabinet could have easily acted as an explosive fuel before it made its way to market. Even the baking soda in the refrigerator could have blown the roof off of a processing plant. If this seems ridiculous or some sort of urban myth, read on and learn how something as [...]
LEDs retain several distinct advantages over fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not require any ballast for their operation. Using entirely solid state electronics, the current and output of LEDs can be easily regulated and maintained. There is no initial startup or warm up period normally associated with ballast equipped luminaries. [...]
Hazardous location lighting equipment is in the simplest explanation used in places where concentrations of volatile gases, flammable dust or particulates, or flammable chemicals are high enough to present a danger of ignition that can lead to explosion or fire. [...]
Deciding on the proper lighting for a particular work location can result in some unexpected confusion. Although many people understand that the presence of flammable or volatile materials and gases present a hazard, they do not understand the nature of equipment that must be used in such locations. [...]
Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...]
