The Magnalight EPL-SL-5-LED Explosion Proof LED String Light set is U.L. approved Class 1 Division 1 Groups C and D - and is ideal for general close work and inspection activities in hazardous locations requiring explosion proof protection.
This 45 watt explosion proof LED string light set from Magnalight produces a total combined output of 3800 lumens of bright white light. Five, 7 watt LED work lights equipped with aluminum hooks are connected in series along 50 feet of 12/3 SOOW explosion proof cord. A junction box is mounted every ten feet, with 3 feet of 16/3 SOOW cord connecting a single 7 watt LED lamp to each box. The cord on this unit is terminated in an ECP 1523P Class 1, Division 1 explosion proof plug for total explosion proof protection. There is no ballast with this LED string light and the housing on each lamp is constructed of non sparking aluminum which helps to keep weight to a minimum while affording good durability.
This hazardous location light string is Class 1, Division 1 and Class 2 Division 1 hazardous location environment approved. This explosion proof LED string light is ideal for hazardous work areas where a ready source of easily managed lighting is desired.

This unit incorporates five 7 watt LED drop lights connected in series and is suitable for use in areas where petrochemical vapors and various dusts are present. Each LED lamp projects 760 lumens of light, for a combined total of 3800 lumens from all five. The output of this string light is stronger and of better quality than sets equipped with 100 watt incandescent bulbs, yet it uses only 10% as much electrical current.
The lamps in this unit are high efficiency LEDs which require no ballast, so there is no inline lamp hardware to manage. The solid state LED construction, aluminum housings with rubber bumper guards, polycarbonite lamp covers and abrasion resistant cord make this a very durable unit that will resist damage from dropping, vibrations and impacts. This explosion proof LED string light will operate on any voltage ranging from 110 Volts AC to 240 Volts AC on 50/60 hz. The light produced by this unit has a 6000k color temperature, which is much sharper and whiter than the light produced by incandescent lamps.
The light produced by this unit is ideal for close work and inspection activities where good contrast and true color representation is needed. The LED lamps in this unit run much cooler than incandescent or flourescent lamps, resulting in a lamp housing that remains cool to the touch, reducing heat buildup in confined workspaces and eliminating the accidental burns often encountered with incandescent drop lights.

Utilizing controlled tests involving standard mining cap lights, common commercial grade LEDs, and a special LED mining light design of their own making, they found that for most intents and purposes, LEDs provided a greater degree of contrast and improved threat detection times as shown by test subjects. Particularly in the case of workers over the age of 40, with 43 years being the average age of mine workers, contrasting of LED illuminated objects was improved 43%. Additionally, threat detect [...]
LEDs retain several distinct advantages over fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not require any ballast for their operation. Using entirely solid state electronics, the current and output of LEDs can be easily regulated and maintained. There is no initial startup or warm up period normally associated with ballast equipped luminaries. [...]
According to OSHA, 30,000 U.S. facilities are at risk of fires and explosions caused by the presence of combustible dusts. OSHA also notes that between 1980 and 2005 118 workers were killed and another 718 injured in incidents involving a combustible dust explosion. Aluminum, steel, coal, grain, plastics, resins, flour, wood and a whole list of others both organic and non organic can become extremely flammable when ground, shaved or in some other way processed into fine particulates. Rechargeable spotlights and flashlights have become an increasingly important part of military operations. As recently as ten years ago military personnel in the field were forced to rely on personal lighting equipment that had very short operational times due to high energy consumption. This required the further addition of up to twenty pounds of batteries to keep them operational during a full mission deployment of ten days. [...]
When most of us think of night vision devices we usually picture the elaborate electronic headgear or special cameras used by military personnel. We usually assume the technology is complicated and the price exorbitant and so we also assume that attractive as being able to see in the dark may be, its beyond the realm of us mere mortals. [...]
Hazardous location lighting equipment is in the simplest explanation used in places where concentrations of volatile gases, flammable dust or particulates, or flammable chemicals are high enough to present a danger of ignition that can lead to explosion or fire. [...]
Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...]
