The LEDUL8-2C Underwater LED light from Magnalight produces 2,700 lumens of light while drawing only 30 watts @2.5 amps on a 12 volt electrical system. This powerful and compact underwater LED light features selective-color and multi-color combination capability and offers a safer and more durable through-hole surface mounting alternative to other units which require drilling large mounting holes in the hull and complex sealing.
The LEDUL8-2C underwater LED light produces 2,700 lumens of bright light, offers single or dual color output modes and is available in white, blue, green, or a blue and white combination. Control of the light’s color output mode is accomplished by simply toggling your standard power switch off and on quickly. The light modes include white only, blue only, white and blue in combination and a white and blue fade. This unit is constructed of stainless steel and is designed to be surface mounted to the hull while a small 1/2 inch protrusion containing the power wires extends through the hull, allowing the unit to be wired from the other side. This mounting method protects the wires from abrasion and intrusion from water while also greatly reducing the size and or amount of holes that must be drilled in the hull for installation.
This underwater boat light is submersible to six feet and contains 8 LEDs producing a total of 2,700 lumens while drawing only 30 watts at 2.5 amps from a standard 12 volt electrical system. This unit can be operated with voltages ranging from 10 to 30 VDC and is constructed of stainless steel for durability and resistance to corrosion. The entire unit measures only 3.88 inches in diameter by 0.79 inches thick, making it very low profile and easy to mount unobtrusively on the hull below the waterline. This light contains an intelligent microprocessor that controls operation of the light modes and there is no additional hardware or drive circuits needed to complete installation.
Mounting: Mounting is accomplished with three through holes and screws for securing the light to the hull. A 1/2 inch base extension in the center of the light containing the wiring connections passes through the hull for secure through surface wiring. In boating applications the operator can drill a 1/2 inch hole in the hull and insert the base mount, passing the base extension through the hull. The 2 wire installation can then be done inside the hull. The wires or points of ingress around the wire are thus not exposed to the water and protected against chafing or damage from rubbing against the edges of the mounting hole. We also carry an alternative underwater LED unit that is submersible to 60 meters you can view here.

Where once a modest 35 foot cruiser might have had 7 halogen deck lights eating up 750 watts and over 35 amps to produce 59000 lumens, two LED spreader lights consuming only 240 watts and 20 amps can produce over 14,000 lumens! Yes, that means that a skipper could do away with all 7 halogen lamps, install a single 120 watt LED light bar, and still produce more light while using less than a third as much power. By now, it should be pretty clear just why LEDs have become so attractive to boaters. [...]
The color rendering index is a scale devised some time ago to measure how colors may change in appearance when illuminated by a light source as compared to an accepted standard light source with the same color temperature. For example, a color chart with several different colors may be set up and illuminated with an incandescent lamp which is used as a standard reference. Then, the same color chart will be illuminated with a fluorescent lamp and any changes in how each of the colors appear are t [...]
Because of their solid state design, low power requirement, high efficiency and durable construction, LEDs offer a wide range of improvements over traditional light sources. Able to produce light in specific wavelengths, containing no gases, filaments or glass, and much smaller than traditional light sources, LEDs are a radically different way to produce light and as such, have much different properties than the traditional light bulb. [...]
We hear a lot today about how great LEDs are. They use very little energy, theyre the lighting of the future, theyll make the incandescent light bulb obsolete, and every one of these claims is in fact true. However, we dont hear nearly as much about the other everyday ways that LEDs can benefit us, and considering that these benefits are quite considerable, this is something of a shame. [...]
At the forefront of colored boat lighting are the hugely popular underwater or “hull lights”. Designed to illuminate the water underneath and around the boat, these lights produce some of the most surreal and beautiful effects to be had in custom boat lighting. [...]
When most of us think of night vision devices we usually picture the elaborate electronic headgear or special cameras used by military personnel. We usually assume the technology is complicated and the price exorbitant and so we also assume that attractive as being able to see in the dark may be, its beyond the realm of us mere mortals. [...]
The marine industry is one of the first and largest commercial sectors to capitalize on the revolution in electrical illumination that LED lighting technology represents. Since electrical lighting was first introduced into boating applications, designers in the boating industry have grappled with the need to provide adequate power for electrical systems while maintaining a practical rate of energy consumption on board a ship. What started out as something of a novelty has quickly grown into a popular and effective addition to almost any boat that is used for spending evening hours out on the open water. Anglers have known for a long time the benefits of using lights to attract game-fish and pleasure boaters have often enjoyed the ambiance and intrigue created by installing underwater lights on the hull of their craft.
