Larson Electronics manufactures the Magnalight 12 volt spotlights with magnetic base and 12 volt searchlights with magnetic base with magnetic bases and 16 foot cords in Dallas, TX. These industrial grade 12 volt spotlights have been a staple of the cable, telephone and electric utility industry since 1967. HID work light uses arc lamp technology to produce high power light output.  Arc lamps do not have a filament, instead an arc jumps across 2 electrodes, igniting gas (metal halide or Xenon) trapped within the bulb.  Because there is no filament to break, HID bulbs tend to last several thousand hours of run time.
