The EPL-BS-161M-TP1-100 Explosion Proof LED Light from Magnalight is rated Class 1 Division 1-2 Groups C , D and Class 2 Division 1-2 and uses a 16 inch LED light head to produce 10,000 lumens of light while drawing only 150 watts.
The EPL-BS-161M-TP1-100 is a tripod mounted explosion proof LED light and provides 8,000 square feet of work area coverage with 10,000 lumens of light output. This portable LED tripod light has a removable LED light head measuring 16 inches in diameter mounted on top of an adjustable aluminum tripod for easy positioniong of the unit from one area of the workspace to another. The LED light head on this unit produces a wide flood pattern of light that is ideal for illuminating enclosed areas such as tanks and containers and is suitable for hazardous locations where flammable vapors, gases and dusts may be present. Aluminum construction, high power LED light output, and a high degree of adjustability, make this an ideal lightweight alternative to heavy traditional metal halide or incandescent tripod lighting systems.
Further functionality has been added to this light through the inclusion of a specially designed lamp bracket that allows operators to remove the lamp assembly from the tripod and use the lamp as a portable pedestal mounted light. Previous designs allowed the lamp head to be removed for easy stowing and transport only, but this new pedestal top design now allows the lamp assembly to sit solidly on the floor when removed. This new feature makes this explosion proof light extremely versatile as well as portable and ideal for a very wide range of applications.

This portable LED light tripod is comprised of a 16 inch LED light head fitted within a specially designed removable aluminum mounting bracket mounted atop an adjustable tripod fabricated from non sparking aluminum. The non sparking, adjustable and collapsible tripod can be extended to eight feet in height and collapsed to three feet, providing a high degree of versatility and portability. The explosion proof LED light fixture can be removed from the tripod by releasing the hand knob and sliding the light and mounting bracket off of the tripod support while the legs can be collapsed, aiding in deployment, storage and transport. The lamp assembly can be removed from the tripod and used as a portable pedestal mount light. The lamp can be easily adjusted up, down, or from side to side, and locked into position. Included with this LED light tripod is 100 feet of SOOW cord and an explosion proof plug, which combined with the 360 degrees of rotation and 90 degrees of tilt offered by the LED light head provides an effective alternative to often cumbersome explosion proof string lights.
The LED light head on this unit measures 16 inches in diameter, which allows it to fit through most standard size manholes and entry points. The LED light head can be removed from the tripod, the tripod collapsed, and the entire assembly passed through a manhole and reassembled once inside.
This unit is also multi-voltage capable and can configured to operate on 120-277 volts 50/60 Hz. Further adding to the versatility and convenience of this LED light tripod are 25 peel off mylar overspray lamp protectors that ship with the unit. The protectors provide lamp protection from dirt or debris and can be removed, cleaned and replaced, lessening the need for tedious lamp cleaning or replacements. This lamp is T5 temperature rated and the LED light head retains 80% of its lumen output after 60,000 hours of use, far longer than incandescent or fluorescent lamps. The light head can be removed and used separately from the tripod for added convenience.
NOTE: For taller tripod mount applications or unstable, vibratory applications where operators might bump the light, the EPL-TP-1x150LED-100 is a better choice. The EPL-TP-1x150LED-100 also better choice where operators prefer to roll around the deployed unit.

Electrical lighting for mines has predominantly been of a few specific types including incandescent lamps, HID luminaires, and fluorescent tubes. The problems with such mine lighting technologies stems largely from their power requirements and low durability factors. Each of these lighting types is of a construction that utilizes fragile materials such as glass and thin wire filaments that hold little resistance to abusive handling and conditions. Compounding the durability issue is the hazardou [...]
It wouldn’t be until 1902 that practical electrical lamps were introduced in mines and removed the need for open flames. Electrical lamps greatly reduced the possibility of fires and explosions, but again, by today’s standards they were hardly safe. Early electric lamps got hot, the batteries were unwieldy and leaked acids, and shattered bulbs and shorted wires were all too capable of causing an accident. By the 1930’s electric lighting was the only mine lighting in use, although the older Davy [...]
North America is presently not operating with the IECex/ATEX schemes although some effort has been made to produce some homogenity between North American and European Standards, most notably the US and Canada's adoption of a Zone system (NEC 505) modeled after European Schemes. However, despite the great similarity between North American and European Zone systems, they are not identical and are not interchangeable.
