This handheld spotlight was designed to be lightweight and durable. The materials were chosen for the same purpose. This 10 watt LED handheld light has a high impact nylon handle and machined aluminum LED housing. The driver board for the LED is potted within the LED head. The LED head is rated at 120,000 hours (15 years of non-stop use). The 16 gauge internal wiring and connectors are simple, well insulated and well constructed.

The LED is packaged and bound within a patented reflector system. This is a single 10 Watt LED configuration, not a cluster of low grade LEDs. The reflector captures and focuses the light efficiently and effectively. A thick Lexan lens protects the LED and reflector package and the entire assembly is potted into the machined aluminum head. The black powder coating protects the aluminum from oxidation.
The light output on this handheld LED light is shockingly strong. We see a lot of lighting technology, and while we saw the longevity and low current draw advantages, we weren't big fans of LEDs because they didn't project light well. They did better as short range flood lights. But recently, the developments in LEDs and related reflector technology are amazing. This light projects a bright, white beam to 800 feet and covers an area about 75 feet wide. Unlike halogen or HID lights, there is not a distinct beam edge. The beam sort of tapers off as it fans out. The 800 foot beam length means that we could read license plates, addresses and other markings at that range easily. Reflective and white items, such as road and boat dock markers were visible at distances to 1500 feet. This LED light produces "cool white" light, very similar to the color and consistency of fluorescent lights you might find in a new office building or retail store, in the 6000 Kelvin color range.
The pictures below are taken at 5:30AM. The night is turning to day, but it is still dark and the sun has not rose. The garage is 30 feet from the light. The light creates a 12 foot wide beam at 30 feet.

The pictures below are taken at the same time, but show the distance. The first white garage door is at about 450 feet and second is at 800 feet of distance. There is a white vehicle at about 1200 feet. The light is effective at highlighting reflective objects to almost 1500 feet, but you can effectively read details in true color at 800 feet.

This ultra-durable handheld spotlight weighs only 10 ounces, which makes it easy to carry and operate for long periods of time. The unit is balanced for ergonomic comfort and handling. The handle is 4.5 inches long, 1.5 inches deep and 5/8 inch thick, making it easy to hold, even in wet, slippery conditions. The nylon handle has a no-slip textured surface to improve grip as well.

The booted push button switch is conveniently placed so the user can easily access the switch with their fore finger for quick on/off use.
A 3/8-16 inch brass nut fastener is imbedded in the base of the handle enabling the operator to mount a magnetic base, like our MM-2 or MM-5 to the light. Alternatively, the operator can tripod mount this spotlight as well.
The Magnalight spotlight is designed for easy field maintenance. Simple internal connectors are accessed through the snap in base at the bottom of the handle. No tools are required to change any part of the light, including the LED head. This Magnalight is easily field serviceable. The detachable cord can be replaced.
This Magnalight spotlight has a lanyard attachment at the back of the handle for users that want to secure the light in the event they lose their grip.
Each Magnalight comes with a detachable 16 foot coil cord with cigarette plug. The cord is detached via a weatherproof, 2 pin Deutsch connector which easily and securely attaches and detaches the coil cord from the spotlight. Other cords, including 21 foot cords with ring terminals (C-21RT), 16 foot cord with spring battery clamps (alligator clips) (C-16BC) and a 16 foot straight cord with cigarette plug (C-16CP) are available.
The materials used in the construction of the light are UV, water, impact and chemical resistant.
This handheld spotlight draws less than 1 amp on a 12 volt system. The 24 volt version draws less than 1/2 amp.
This light will run on any voltage from 9 to 32 volts DC. As such, you can run this light on any consumer vehicle, military vehicle, boat or ATV. For those of you looking to run this off a conventional car or marine battery in a portable application, you can expect 60 or more hours of run time on a single charge, depending on the size of the battery.
As a side note, we have a permanent mount plate screw in base for this light and the rest of our HL-85 series lights. With this models, ultra low current draw, combining this light with the permanent mount base plate and a car or marine battery is an effective solution for illuminating the feeder area for hog/pig hunting.
