Larson Electronics HML Series 24 volt
Military Spotlights
Larson Electronics produces the
Magnalight 24 volt spotlight with magnetic base for use on the military HUMVEE,
Bradley and Fox vehicles. Larson Electronics now stocks the Hand Magnetic Light
5M (HML-5M) 24 volt magnetic spotlight (2nd row of spotlights above) and the
Hand Magnetic Light 6M (HML-6M) HID spotlight (first row above). The HML-5M 24
volt spotlight with magnetic base version features a black lamp housing, black
powder coated steel handle and solid black polypropylene handle. The HML-5M
magnetic 24 volt spotlight features a 21 foot, 16 AWG cord for direct battery
connection via battery clamps and/or battery ring terminal connectors. The
HML-5M 24 volt magnetic spotlight can remain connected directly and permanently
to the battery beneath the passenger seat even under severe vibratory
conditions. Magnalight carries an extensive line of military
spotlights and lighting equipmentent including infrared LED lights
for covert operations and explosion proof lights for use in ammo dumps, fuel
depots, garages and anywhere hazardous conditions are present.
The new Hand Magnetic Light 24 volt magnetic
spotlight HML-5M also features a longer steel powder coated handle structure
which enables the light to move up and down a full 180 degrees. The HML-5 series
24 volt spotlight with magnetic base projects upwards even when in close
proximity to targets, while continuing to provide several hundred feet of
illumination at distance. The 100 pound grip magnetic base of this spotlight is
strong enough to remain in place during movement and vibration, but enables
users to move the light to another location or vehicle.
The HML-5M 24 volt spotlight with magnetic
base complements the existing HML-5C 24 volt spotlight which comes with a black
housing, black powder coated steel frame and 21 foot 16 AWG cord with battery
clamps. The HML-5A is the chrome version of the HML-5C. All 24 volt spotlights
with magnetic bases are designed for the 24 volt systems available in the
military HUMVEE, HMMWV, Bradley and FOX reconnaissance vehicles.
The 24 volt magnetic spotlight can be used to
identify targets and locate makeshift incendiary devices (IEDs). The Magnalight
HML-5 series 24 volt magnetic spotlights also provide convoy protection and
blind oncoming traffic.
12/24 Volt Military Lights - Military
Spotlights - Military Floodlights - Military LEDs
The
Magnalight HML-5 (HML-5M / HLM-5M NSN 6220-01-550-6360) and HML-6 series are
part of our line of military grade 24 volt
spotlights with magnetic bases designed for
use on the Humvee, Bradley, 1088 and almost any other type of armored or non
armored vehicle. These 24 volt spotlights have been tested and approved for use
by the Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force and are currently used in Iraq and
Afghanistan as part of the military’s Special Forces' Escalation of Force Kits
which are deployed with each soldier.
Magnalight spotlights manufactured in
Texas since 1967 to preserve quality and service
Larson Electronics has been producing the
brightest and most durable 12 volt magnetic vehicle spotlights in the industrial
space since 1967. The Magnalight line of 12 volt magnetic vehicle spotlights are
proudly sourced and manufactured in the USA and have a 2 year replacement
guarantee. Strong magnetic base and a sturdy hinge system create versatility in
beam placement for Magnalight spotlights.
Larson Electronics' Magnalight magnetic
vehicle spotlights use 100 pound grip magnets for semi-permanent mounting to
vehicles or equipment so that utility workers can safely ascend up the pole or
descend into the manhole with plenty of illumination. The tension hinge enables
users to position the beam at any angle. What makes Larson Electronics range of
12 volt spotlights different?
Magnalight spotlights contain three
different form factors and 6 different lamp types to choose from
1. Larson Electronics offers the hand magnetic
spotlight, the magnetic spotlight and the magnetic utility spotlight form
factors, shown below from left to right. The hand magnetic spotlight is a design
that is unique to Larson and the most popular in the industrial and utility
spaces. The light is counterbalanced and can be used in handheld mode or semi
permanent mounting mode effortlessly.
Heavy duty components on Magnalight
spotlights ensure long lasting life
2. Larson Electronics uses quality American
made components in Magnalight magnetic vehicle spotlights. Our handles are
solid, not hollow. The support structure is made from aircraft aluminum. The
hinge system and magnets are made from zinc coated steel and surpass 700 hours
of continuous salt water spray without effect.
Weather proof Magnalight spotlight
design ensures long lasting life
3. The lamp housing on the magnetic vehicle
spotlight is impervious to all weather conditions and made to last infinitely in
outdoor applications. The housing is ultraviolet protected and weatherproof, so
neither sun nor rain can cause deterioration. In short, you can leave this light
outside for life and expect it to perform the same 10 years from now as it does
today.
4. The steel shroud on our magnetic base is
the thickest available, creating grip ratings over 100 pounds.
All-glass sealed beams produce and
project the most light from Magnalight spotlights
5. Larson Electronics magnetic vehicle
spotlights contain all-glass sealed beams. The all-glass sealed beams CAPTURE
and PROJECT the most light available from a 12 volt source. Most of the
spotlights coming from Asia contain plastic reflectors and lenses. While this
reduces ship weight from Asia, the plastic reflectors and lenses reduce the
amount of light "thrown" by the magnetic spotlight at distance. This has to do
with the smoothness of glass versus plastic and how the aluminum particulates
are applied to the smoother surface. Thus, all-glass sealed beams capture and
project nearly 10X the light produced by the same bulb.
Heavy gauge wire enables the
Magnalight spotlights to offer the longest cords in the industry
6. Larson Electronics manufacturers its
magnetic vehicle spotlights using 16 gauge wire. This means that the wire is
thicker than that used by Asian sources. This is important because heavier gauge
stranded wire improves the flow of electricity to the light. Larson Electronics'
magnetic vehicle spotlights ship with either a 16 foot straight cord or a 16
foot coil cord. This is the longest cord in the industry. With 16 gauge wire,
Larson offers the longest and thickest cord in the industry, ensuring that users
can place the magnetic spotlight where needed, but optimizing the amperage and
thus the brightness of the lamp.
No "walk out" cigarette lighter
adapter plug keeps the light on no matter how much tugging
occurs
7. Larson Electronics' magnetic spotlights
come with a unique cigarette lighter adapter plug. While we can source other
cigarette lighter plugs for less than 20 cents each, we continue to use plugs
that cost nearly 10 times as much. Our industrial users need a light that can
work all night, every night. Thus, it is imperative that our plug does not "walk
out" of the cigarette lighter adapter each time the magnetic vehicle spotlight
is moved. Our plugs are made from a special polymer that resists heat warping,
enabling it to maintain its tight fit in the socket. This feature combined with
a single heavy duty spring and ultrawide tension contact create an electrical
connection that guarantees that the plug will remain properly seated in the
socket regardless of how much strain and vibration it is subject to.

NEMA ratings are guidelines published by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association intended to provide a homogenous system of rating electrical enclosures according to their various design parameters. NEMA ratings encompass a wide area of subjects such as protection against contact with internal parts, resistance to internal contamination from fluids, resistance to icing and external damage, and the enclosures suitability for use in various environments. [...]
It is not enough to simply incorporate standard explosion proof and intrinsically safe lighting designs into rig illumination plans. The potential damage that corrosion and dampness can erode the integrity of explosion proof housings and fixtures must also be taken into consideration as well. As a result, explosion proof oil rig lighting must be specifically designed to meet marine use compliance as well as NEC, ATEX or IECex compliance if safe operation over long term use is to be ensured.

With the introduction of LEDs into the commercial marine lighting markets, fleet operators have begun realizing serious improvements over their old HID lighting systems. LED boat lights produce a much whiter and cleaner light, with greatly improved color rendering and contrasting capabilities compared to the low pressure sodium lighting they are replacing. The improved light quality of LED boat lights means skippers and crew can more easily monitor operations and make better decisions based on i [...]
Where once a modest 35 foot cruiser might have had 7 halogen deck lights eating up 750 watts and over 35 amps to produce 59000 lumens, two LED spreader lights consuming only 240 watts and 20 amps can produce over 14,000 lumens! Yes, that means that a skipper could do away with all 7 halogen lamps, install a single 120 watt LED light bar, and still produce more light while using less than a third as much power. By now, it should be pretty clear just why LEDs have become so attractive to boaters. [...]
Although the potential of LEDs has only recently begun to be effectively translated into the industrial work environment, current applications and studies have been showing they indeed are an effective alternative to traditional light sources. The abusive and demanding conditions of industrial mining environments as well as the high safety emphasis they require provide an ideal opportunity for the benefits of LEDs to be fully realized and thus perhaps allow a full migration away from traditional [...]
Some important considerations to keep in mind are that although an item may be rated as ”IP68”, this does not automatically infer the item can be safely operated at any depth for any period of time without failure. For IP68 ratings, manufacturers choose the specified depth which must be beyond 1 meter at which the enclosure will protect against the ingress of water. Normally, as with industrial lighting equipment or marine lighting intended to be operated for extended periods beyond depths of 1 [...]
